      "Hi Gary,
Nice summary on the trends. We can confirm that the mobile carriers are looking to roll-out these types of customized platforms -- all variants of a proprietary technology called "FreeBand" where the app itself is preloaded with some form of free/subsidized bandwidth. In sum, placing the bandwidth management rules (who pays, when, for what amounts, revenue sharing, tiers, etc.) is far easier to build and manage in the application layer than within the network core (BSS/OSS legacy framework is not well positioned to do this). Looked at another way, if the auditing of these bandwidth billing functions is done inside the carrier network it is like tracking millions of cats a second (the cats being the bandwidth rules). However, having each on device app do the rules makes each of the millions of phones essentially tracking a few cats each second -- a much more manageable proposition. There are other advantages as well which I would be happy to send you information on. For more info just take a look at www.boxtop.tv or write me at tsachson@boxtop.tv
      Thanks, Thomas Sachson"

    13. In Is Netflix a "Cord Mender," Not a Cord Cutter"?:
      "Gary
Interesting use of the term "cord cutting." Normally applies to users who are going wireless, rather than wireline (telephony). Not sure that Netflix impacts that cord cutting in any way. Are people industry-wide also referring to cord-cutting as doing away with cable TV and going Internet TV (which still requires a cord, often from the same people who provided TV!)? Or is it just a Reed Hastings-ism?"

"That would be really awesome if Sony pushes through with that. Imagine, you can now enjoy communicating with your friends and relatives through Skype, in the comfort of your own living room . Most of these devices should be connected wirelessly via WiFi connection, and having a wireless rotuer in your home can really help. Anyway, speaking of wireless routers, if you're looking for a good one, I recommend you check out the Netgear Wireless Router for Video and Gaming. You can use this device to connect computers, gaming consoles, notebooks, or wireless printers, and also your networked home theater devices. You can also use this to stream video and music from a USB drive to media players and DLNA TV's, even without using a computer. Not that's one powerful wireless router for you. For more information about Netgear's Wireless Router for Video and Gaming, check out this site: http://bit.ly/bByST7. Enjoy!
